who we are

Green Valley Crossing was started in September 2013 by a group of folks who wanted to see a vibrant new church in northeastern Connecticut. Here you can learn more about our story, our beliefs, and our leadership.

Our Story

New England has a rich history of faith. Yet, as one looks over the landscape of New England today, religion is far from the forefront of most people’s minds. All six New England states are in the top ten least religious in America (Gallup, 2012). The cultural context contains many different world views, philosophies, and lifestyles.

In the mid 2000s, the Baptist Convention of New England, along with the North American Mission Board (SBC), began to converse about beginning a host of new, relevant, Bible-teaching churches all across New England...

OUR BELIEFS

Green Valley Crossing, a church in cooperation with the SBC, has adopted the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as their Statement of Belief. It can be found in its entirety at http://www.sbc.net/bfm2000/default.asp.

To give you a better idea as to what The Crossing believes/teaches,

  • We affirm that the Bible holds authority in the life of a Christian, so we preach it faithfully.
  • We believe that God the Father is sovereignly working out His will in the world.
  • We believe that Jesus, the perfect Son of God, died for the sin that corrupted life.
  • We agree that all people everywhere are called to trust in Christ and turn from their sin as part of their salvation.
  • We confess that the Spirit of God is ruling and reigning in the lives of His people.
  • We believe that the Church is God’s chosen institution to proclaim His message to all of creation.
  • We affirm that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, and that believers have a job to do as a result.
  • We think that church should be an expression of joy, not a funeral service, so we make sure it’s relevant to the modern age.
  • We believe the Church should graciously engage the culture rather than run from it.
  • We understand that every individual is on a unique journey, so we welcome all types of people to make discoveries about Jesus with us.
  • We bank on the fact that life has no purpose and meaning apart from a relationship with God, so we unashamedly proclaim the grace-filled, life-changing message of Jesus to the world.
  • We understand that Jesus will one day come back to judge this world and everyone in it.
